Golf / Poker

In about 1990, with David Millar (No 7), Richard Duplock (No 8), ?Ollie (No 6), me (No 3), and Paresh Desai (No 5) we formed the Frogs (Flanchford Road Old Golfers Society).  Every now and then we would have a round of golf, with handicaps and trophies.  Paresh, as president, didn't play at all.  David’s handicap was about 15, and mine was about 28.  But that is the great thing that makes golf an even game amongst players of different abilities.  We went to northern France to play a couple of times at Le Touquet, and  Spain, Marbella.

Soon we started to have poker evenings as well, taking it in turns to be host and provide food.  Alan Bennett and eventually ? joined in with this, and Paresh dropped out.  To start with we smoked cannabis, and eventually had a few lines of coke.  Before this I had taken no drugs at all, but I quite liked them.   All very good fun.

I had given up smoking, but would roll the odd joint on my own.  I would then feel very guilty smoking the odd ordinary, non-pot cigarette.  And so I eventually started smoking again.  The whole thing lasted about 10 years.

I joined Salisbury and South Wilts Golf Club, and played with ? from Bishopstone, but mostly on my own, particularly on the 9-hole course up by the horse-racing course.  I enjoyed it, but never got particularly good.  I also played with Bridget Bowen, in Salisbury and at other courses near her.
