Worked in holidays as a char (home cleaner) via a theatrical agent off Edgware Rd (actors often worked as chars).  Very varied.  Never got propositioned.  Learnt to do it exactly as told, rather than as I preferred or as was more efficient.

  

I was more elegant than most.  In a circular stairwell at college I overheard one girl say to another "Not bad for an engineer!"

Nicky Southern was in my year as an engineer.  He was the son of Rita and Jack Southern, who had a house in East Sheen.  My mother has been at school with Rita, and I saw a lot of them until 1960.

Nicky went to Newcastle, and I lost touch.

I passed my final exams, but only just, as seemed to be my habit.  I got a pass degree.
